Bernardo Pacquing

Bernardo Pacquing is a prominent Filipino artist known for his explorations of abstraction in both painting and sculpture. Born in 1967 in Tarlac, Philippines, he currently resides and works in Singapore. Pacquing’s artistic practice revolves around pushing the boundaries of abstraction by incorporating a diverse array of found objects. Through his creative process, he challenges conventional notions of aesthetic representation, form, and value, resulting in works that engage viewers and provoke contemplation.
Bernardo graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts in 1989, equipping him with a strong foundation in artistic techniques and theory. His dedication and innovative approach to art were recognized early on, as he received the Grand Prize from the Art Association of the Philippines Open Art Competition in the Painting, Non-Representation category in both 1992 and 1999. In the year 2000, Bernardo achieved another significant milestone in his career by being honored with the Cultural Center of the Philippines Thirteen Artists Award. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon exemplary contemporary visual artists, highlighting his significant contributions to the evolving landscape of Filipino art.
He received a Freeman Fellowship Grant, affording him the opportunity to participate in a residency at the Vermont Studio Center in the United States.
