I Made Mahendra Mangku
(b. 1972, Indonesia)
I Made Mahendra Mangku’s artistic journey has been characterised by his choice of abstract expression as his primary visual language. Exploring various abstract concepts, his artworks come alive through the interplay of lines, colors, and splashes. His canvases deviate from the bold Balinese symbols and icons often found in the works of his contemporaries.
Mangku’s transition to abstract art began in 1993, as he found that abstraction provided him with more room for improvisation and exploration. After completing his studies at ISI Yogyakarta, he returned to Sukawati and established his personal studio, the De’carik Art Studio. He participated in the Singapore International Artist Fair (SIAF) in 2018 and showcased 15 of his paintings and watercolors, further cementing his presence in the international art scene. Mangku has also exhibited at solo exhibitions in Jakarta and Ubud.
