(b. 1977, China)

Leo Liu Xuanqi is a Chinese contemporary artist who has embraced Singapore as his creative home. Having left a successful career in design and advertising, he now devotes himself entirely to art. His remarkable talent was recognized with the prestigious Platinum Award at the 31st UOB Singapore Painting of the Year Competition for his captivating artwork “Wandering Cloud.” Leo’s unique artistic fusion intertwines modern graphic design with traditional painting techniques, generating a dynamic interplay between realism and vibrant design. Guided by a profound exploration of dualism and dialectics, his work encourages contemplation on the ever-evolving relationship between tradition and the contemporary world. Drawing inspiration from history and societal issues, Leo seeks to ignite the minds of his audience, stimulating critical thinking about humanity’s challenges and the world that surrounds us. From his introspective reflections on personal identity within popular culture to his exploration of the impermanence and globalization tensions in his “Cloud” series, Leo consistently pushes artistic boundaries. His bold experimentation encompasses the fusion of charcoal realism with POP Art and the integration of contemporary styles into traditional Chinese ink painting, resulting in captivating and distinct artistic expressions. With numerous solo exhibitions and international art fair participations, Leo’s works find homes in both private collections and esteemed public institutions.
